Deer Island Park
Deer Island Park is located at the end of Tafts Avenue in Winthrop, MA. Deer Island is the home of the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority (MWRA) which provides water and sewer to millions of people in the metropolitan Boston area. Not a typical beach area, with no swimming is allowed at the beach. The water is on the calm side, and the sand away from the water is soft and free of debris, perfect for watching planes fly overhead as they arrive at Logan Airport. Closer to the water the sand is piled with seaweed, rocks, and crushed shells. The park itself is perfect to enjoy the scenic views of Boston, dog walks, running, fishing, or picnicking on the ample green grass. The park also offers tours that require a reservation for groups and individuals. Deer Island Park is a great place to relax, enjoy Boston views, or explore the trail system.
