Hammonasset Beach State Park is Connecticut’s largest shoreline park with 2 miles of swimmable beach. The park offers more than traditional beach activities: it’s a popular hiking and biking area, fishing area (in designated areas), is home to Meigs Point Nature Center (an educational environment facility), and a popular camping site. The sand is mostly debris-free with crushed shells mixed in with larger amounts at the water’s edge. The grade to the water is gradual although there is a larger drop-off in comparison to other Connecticut beaches.
