Merkel Beach is small beach area that requires a 5 minute walk to gain access to the beach. The plot of land was given to the Town of Harwich Conservation Commission in September, 1979 by Frances Gray Merkel. The beach area is indicated by poles and signage. The slope to the water is mild with wave size varying from small to mid-sized with warmer water for the New England area. Sand has a light mix of debris throughout; near the water’s edge thick bands of seaweed and shells leave a reminder of past high-tides.
