Mile Beach
Reid State Park is Maine’s first state-owned saltwater beach, and offers 1.5 miles of ocean-front. Three beaches are located at Reid State Park: East Beach, Mile Beach, and Half Mile Beach. Each beach is has unique and scenic attributes (that make for great photo ops). The beaches never truly get crowded and are easy to navigate. Entrance to the water is similar for Mile and Half Mile Beaches, a gradual decent to the water where there are larger waves and often a strong undertow. East Beach is rocky and ideal for relaxing and enjoying the view, whereas Mile and Half Mile Beaches are great for water activities in addition to being scenic. Small tidal pools behind the dunes are perfect for kids or those looking to stay away from the large waves. Green head flies can be a problem later in the summer.
